Support Chemakum Tribal Services
The Tribal Council created Chemakum Tribal Services, a 501(c)(3) organization that has taken on this important work:
Support the tribe in honoring our ancestors,
Serve our people, descendants, and communities by researching and documenting our history,
Do meaningful outreach to educate and share that rich history, and
Work to acquire a land base in our traditional territory to walk the paths protected by our ancestors, a place we can call home again.
To this end, we invite your support as we embark on the following:
Chemakum Canoe: A Demonstration Project
We envision engaging with a master Native canoe carver who will guide us in taking a tree in the traditional way, prepare it for carving, teach others the skill and culture of canoe carving all as a demonstration project photographed and/or videographed with the entire process developed into a documentary.
This project will result in trained canoe carvers and a canoe which will allow the Chemakum to return to Canoe Culture.
Land Base
We are intent on acquiring land to steward and preserve as well as land for our tribal center where we can invite the community to join us in celebration and ceremony, where we can conduct our business and teach our language.
Language
The Quileute Language Revitalization Project has been a welcome gift to us. Quileute Language is a five-credit class in the curriculum at Peninsula College and includes history and culture. We are committed to supporting its continuation and expansion.
Supporting the development of a Chemakum dictionary is among our language goals.
Restoration and Revitalization
The Chemakum Tribe has not been justly compensated for their land, resources and livelihood. We invite people who live on this Chemakum land to offer recurring payments to the Chemakum Tribe through Chemakum Tribal Series or offer a one-time donation. These payments may be cancelled at any time.
All donations go directly to Chemakum Tribal Services to support the revival of Chemakum culture and vitality of the Chemakum Tribe.
